Embracing Change: Building a Group Practice

Four years ago, at the beginning of the COVID pandemic, I was forced to give up the office I sub-leased to see clients and start to see clients online from my bedroom while sitting on a chair with my computer propped on my bed. At that time, I couldn’t have imagined transitioning from being a single clinician with a few clients to starting my group practice, as my focus was solely on teaching and seeing clients. However, I am grateful for the events that gave me the courage to take the leap and establish The Relational Practices Ltd.

  1. A wife who told me to build an office at home instead of hogging the bedroom.

  2. I had more clients than I could continue to schedule or manage independently.

  3. Teaching the University of the West Indies couple therapy course introduced me to Kristen and Fontana, both brilliant students.

  4. My part-time administrator trusted me enough to join the practice to organise the office, schedule appointments, and care for our clients.

  5. Kristen reached out for mentorship when I needed to hire another clinician to see my growing number of clients.

  6. Fontana’s openness to joining me in January to grow our work with young people.

  7. Many professional colleagues continue supporting my team and me in various ways.

  8. The love and support of family and friends.

  9. Finally, I am grateful for the trust and courage of our individual, couple, and family clients in Barbados and the region who seek our help to heal.
